SQUEEGEE LOVE <3
Today I want to talk about the MOST IMPORTANT INVENTION IN CLEANING SINCE THE VACUUM CLEANER (which I personally have an unhealthy obsession with), the SQUEEGEE! If you have glass shower doors, or are considering buying glass shower doors, or even if you have shower tiles, or bathroom tiles in general, GET YOURSELF SOME SQUEEGEE!
In most places, water is loaded with minerals that hang out in the droplets. When that water evaporates (say, on shower doors and bathroom tiles), the minerals stay behind and cling, for dear life, on your surfaces. These stains are sometimes referred to as "hard water stains". Even if you think your shower and tub surfaces are nice and clean, when you take a shower or bath, the hard water stains will reveal themselves in the steam, as tiny dots covering the surfaces.
Now, once you have these stains, they are very very difficult to remove. Some people use harsh chemicals like CLS, for instance, which advertises it can remove all "hard water" stains. Green cleaners like us, suggest applying a paste of vinegar, water and baking soda (some people like lemon juice... really, any acid will work) allowing it to dry, and wiping it clean. In any case, your best defense against hard water stains, is a good offence... THE SQUEEGEE!
There are lots of great squeegee options these days, some even have suction cups that cling to the tiles, which keeps the squeegee up off the floor and close at hand for easy use. I suggest this option, as many baths and showers have no good place to store a squeegee, which is an awkward shape. We often find them languishing on the bottom of tubs and showers, having fallen off a shelf or soap holder. But, however you store your squeegee, do try to use one. Of course dry cloth will do, but it is more time consuming, and doesn't have a great name, like the squeegee does :)
Have a squeegee day!
